MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Andrea teaches Algebra I and Integrated Math to 9th graders. Her philosophy on teaching is that students are most successful if the teacher makes them believe three things. She says, “First, students have to believe that what they are learning is important. Next, they have to believe that they are capable of meeting the teacher’s expectations. Lastly, students have to know that a teacher will not give up on them even if they try to give up on themselves.” Andrea believes that students have to know that a teacher cares about the subject matter and, especially, about the students before they are open to learning. Andrea is the Terrebonne Parish Jr. High Teacher of the Year.
