The kindergarten through fourth grade students, who participated in this grant, experienced first hand the steps of the writing process. They were taught the various styles of writing and they had the opportunity to meet local authors. To culminate the writing skills learned, the students became authors and published their own children's books.

At a press conference held on March 24, 2010 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center the TFAE Inspirational Teacher of the Year nominees and finalists were announced. The Terrebonne Parish School District announced the Elementary, Middle/Junior High, and High School Teachers of the Year Finalist and Winners.
